NEW YORK - There are no homosexuals in Iran - not a thingle one - and the Holocaust should not be treated as fact, but as just another theory, open to endless debate and research.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, aired these and other thoughtful observations in a two-hour speech at Columbia University recently.
Most surprising of all, Ahmadinejad lashed out at the generally accepted notion that the Earth was round.
“It is all Western ... how you say – bullshit,” he told the crowd of students and faculty, who applauded politely as he proceeded to outline how he planned to destroy the United States, and, presumably, Columbia University.
Ahmadinejad also accused the United States of supporting other dumb ideas, such as the "Zionist Heresy" that the sun lies at the center of the solar system, and that Elvis was a better musician than the Beatles.
“Anyone who can look at the Sun realizes that it is a big light bulb. How could we go around something like that? Where else do we see something so stupid in nature? Now that is homosexual. We don’t have homosexual theories in Iran, hence no homosexual people.”
He characterized as hypocritical U.S. and European efforts to rein in Iran's nuclear ambitions too, which he said are strictly peaceful in nature.
“What, we can’t have the bomb – for Allah's sake – may the 13th Prophet smite me where I stand if this is not the truth: we just want to use nuclear technology to generate electricity and destroy Israel and the U.S. We should be allowed – it is a free country after all.”
When reminded that Iran is not a free country, he disagreed.
“We choose to repress our people so in that sense they are very free.”
Ahmadinejad concluded his remarks by saying the U.S. was still “The Great Satan”, and Number One on their list in terms of exploding some “peaceful energy” on them.
"That's not very nice," said University President Lee Bollinger, who invited Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia.
